Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say they have arrested a man after a car crash and short pursuit near I-580 and Mt. Rose Highway on Monday afternoon.

Troopers say they tried to stop 27-year-old Billy Joe Williamson for speeding on I-580 north near Bowers Mansion just before 3:30 pm., but Williamson kept driving until he crashed into a concrete roadway barrier near the Mt. Rose Highway off-ramp.

From there, they say he ran away into a field near the Ormat Power Plant where a short pursuit ensued. NHP says with the assistance of Washoe County Deputies and the Reno Police Department, the driver was located and placed into custody without incident.

Williamson was taken to the Washoe County Jail and booked on the following charges.

Basic Speed 21-30 mph over the posted speed limit
Disobey of a police officer
Driving with a revoked driver’s license (due to previous DUI)
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Failure to maintain travel lane
Misdemeanor Warrant

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Ortega is investigating this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information related to this incident is encouraged to reach out to contact him at (775) 688-2500 or mortega@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-161102718.
