Zero Fatalities Effort in Lyon & Douglas Counties

Posted: Updated:

From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office:

Over the next two weeks (October 15th - November 1st), residents can expect to see double the normal law enforcement presence around your area.  Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is JOINING FORCES along with other law enforcement agencies statewide to crack down on impaired driving, and has an important message for the public: if you’ll be drinking, designate a sober driver, and if you drive impaired you will be arrested.

Increasing law enforcement presence during these weeks supports the overall state goal of reaching Zero Fatalities.  Douglas County residents can help us reach that goal by following these safety guidelines.

  • Call a taxi.
  • Call a sober friend or a family member.
  • Call 911 if a drunk driver is seen on the road.
  • Take advantage of community sober ride programs, or use public transportation.
  • Take the keys or assist in making other arrangements for someone who is about to drive who is impaired.

Sheriff Ron Pierini stated “Impaired driving is a serious issue in Nevada that tragically affects thousands of innocent victims annually.  Many lives are put at risk due to impaired drivers.  I want every resident in Douglas County to feel secure on the road and arrive at their destination safety.”
