From the City of Sparks:

Sparks Mayor Geno Martini was selected as the 2016 Public Official of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities & Municipalities (NLCM).

The annual award recipient is nominated and selected by local elected officials throughout the state.  Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen presented Mayor Martini with the award at the NLCM’s annual conference held in the City of Sparks last week.

Reno Councilman David Bobzien nominated Mayor Martini citing among other subjects, the Mayor’s key participation in the creation of the Community Assistance Center that provides shelter and support for individuals and families in crisis throughout the Reno-Sparks community.  In addition to “giving back” to the community, Mayor Martini has been an active volunteer for a number of nonprofit organizations and events in Sparks and throughout the region.  The Mayor has a strong reputation for being accessible and responsive to the needs of Sparks citizens.

The NLCM was founded in 1959 and is a nonpartisan, nonprofit corporation. The membership is comprised of Nevada's city government officials and represents every incorporated city in the state of Nevada including Carson City, as well as most towns and general improvement districts.

The Public Official of the Year program started in 1979. Past recipients of the award include Sparks Councilman Ron Schmitt, former Reno Councilwoman Jessica Sferrazza, Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, and former Reno Mayors Bob Cashell and Jeff Griffin.
