Washoe County Detention Facility Inmate Dies Following Medical Emergency

From the Washoe County Sheriff's Office: 

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that a 48-year-old male inmate passed away following a medical emergency that occurred in the Detention Facility on Friday, October 14, 2016.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on October 14, deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and Detention Facility medical staff immediately began lifesaving measures and the inmate was transported by REMSA to Renown Medical Center. He was declared deceased at the hospital shortly after midnight.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives along with the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting an investigation into this incident.

Exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Due to HIPAA restrictions, the Sheriff’s Office is not able to comment further about the inmate’s medical condition at the time of the incident.

The identity of the inmate will be released after the Medical Examiner’s Office has completed formal identification and next of kin notification.
