Nevada Falls to Purdue After Leading Early

Posted: Updated:

The Nevada Wolf Pack forced 4 Turnovers but allowed 21 unanswered points to the Purdue Boilermakers and lost 24-14.

The Wolf Pack forced the first turnover early in the first quarter when Jayden Sawyer Intercepted David Blough's pass on the Nevada 5-yard line.

Then Tyler Stewart was able to connect with Hasaan Henderson on a 15 yard touchdown to give the Pack a 7-0 lead.

In the 2nd quarter Asani Rufus caused his first of two forced fumbles in the game knocking the ball out of Markell Jones's arm, Jordan Silva recovered the fumble.

A three play 20 yard drive capped off by Stewart's second touchdown of the day when he tossed it to James Butler for his first career collegiate receiving touchdown made it 14-3 Nevada, but that was the last time they would put points on their side of the scoreboard.

Purdue took the lead on their first possession of the 3rd quarter when Jones scored from 5 yards out to make 17-14 Purdue.

Late in the 4th quarter Nevada sent Brent Zuzo on to tie the game on a 27 yard field goal but the normally reliable kicker hooked it left.

The Boilermakers answered when Blough hit Brycen Hopkins on a 51 yard touchdown that put the game out of reach with less than 2 minutes to go.

The loss drops Nevada to (2-2) on the season. They will travel to Hawaii for a matchup with Hawaii (1-3) and former Nevada Offensive Coordinator Nick Rolovich on Saturday October 1st.
