When it comes to donation drives, you often hear about helping children or the homeless, but there's another population in our community that needs some help as well.

Most seniors live on a fixed income; many just on their social security benefits, which don't stretch as far as you might think. So the Assistance League of Reno-Sparks has a program to help them fill their pantries. On Tuesday, they got some help in that mission.

The Associated General Contractors gave a big donation of toiletries, which Assistance League officials said are greatly needed.

"Seniors don't have the funds to purchase a lot of these items," Assistance League President Sandie Barrie said, "and so it's great that we are able to have the help of the Associated General Contractors to be able to provide needed grooming items to these seniors."

The Assistance League distributes food and toiletries to about 400 seniors every month in our community, and they're always in need of donations. They say they're most in need of toilet paper, tissues, chapstick and lotion, all in new packaging. For more information on donating, click here.
