Sophomore Jennifer Purcell went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and freshman Brooke Bolinger picked up five strikeouts in a complete game effort as the Nevada softball team topped Montana, 3-0, on Friday afternoon.
Senior Jasmine Jenkins provided two base hits and an RBI for the Wolf Pack (16-4). For Bolinger it was her seventh complete game and third shutout of the season.
Nevada got on the board in the visiting half of the first. With one out, junior Raquel Martinez walked and moved up two bases on consecutive wild pitches. Jenkins then dropped a ball in right field for an RBI single that scored Martinez and gave the Pack a 1-0 lead.
Bolinger ended a 1-2-3 second frame with a strikeout and worked out of a one-out bases loaded jam in the third. The freshman stayed poised and composed in the fifth inning where she fanned the first batter, allowed a double and induced a line out double play to end the threat.
The Pack gave Bolinger some breathing room in the top of the sixth where Purcell a two-out RBI single into center field that scored Jenkins from second base. With Purcell now at third base, an errant throwdown from the catcher that sailed in foul territory in left allowed her to score easily making it 3-0 Nevada.
Nevada will continue with the Grizzly Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Omaha followed by Montana at 2:30 p.m.
