Junior McKenna Isenberg has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA and 19 strikeouts in two starts last weekend for the Wolf Pack softball team at the SCU Invitational.
The weekly honor is the first for Isenberg and the second for Nevada this season. It’s also the first time that the Pack has seen weekly conference awards in back-to-back weeks since 2009 when Mallary Darby and Katie Holverson were named WAC Pitchers of the Week on March 9 and March 16, respectively. Senior shortstop Megan Sweet was named MW Player of the Week on Feb. 23.
Isenberg, who went the distance in both of her starts, only gave up two earned runs and seven hits in her wins over Santa Clara and UConn. She matched her career-high of 11 strikeouts in the win over the Broncos and allowed only two hits in eight innings of work, also tying a career-best, against the Huskies. The Tempe, Ariz., native improved her record to 5-1 on the season and fanned eight batters in the victory over UConn.
A standout in the classroom, Isenberg is a two-time Academic All-MW selection and a 2014-15 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete as a human development and family studies major.
Nevada next travels to Sacramento State for the Hornet Round Robin where it will face the Hornets and Loyola Marymount twice each on March 5 and 6.
