Washoe County and northern Nevada include a variety of schools and educational opportunities for our youth.  In addition to 18 High Schools, 15 Middle Schools and 62 Elementary Schools in the Washoe County School District, there are numerous charter or magnet schools, parochial schools and private schools where your children can get their education.

Starting with the Washoe County School District, you have traditional high schools:  Damonte Ranch, Galena, Hug, Incline, McQueen, North Valleys, Reed, Reno, Spanish Springs, Sparks and Wooster.  Attendance of these schools is dependent on the area where you live. There are also several charter high schools that your children may attend regardless of where you live. These include:  Academy of Arts Careers and Technology, Innovations, RISE Academy for Adult Education, TMCC, Turning Point and Washoe Inspire Academy. Gerlach K-12 is part of Washoe County School District, but is located in the outlying area north of Reno/Sparks and North Star is an online school. The remaining middle schools and elementary schools are traditional schools.  You can find the full list of Washoe County School District Schools at http://www.washoeschools.net/domain/133.

Outside of the official Washoe County School District are many charter schools which are operated by non-profit organizations. The charter schools are tuition free and are publicly funded. Several schools are online or distance learning schools and others are located in Reno or Sparks.  Since these schools are publicly funded, the students are required to the take the same standard tests as traditional schools.  However, several of these schools specialize in different areas including S.T.E.A.M., smaller class sizes, bilingual teaching or non-traditional schedules. The following schools are part of the Charter School Association of Nevada:  Academy for Career education (ACE), Bailey Charter Elementary School, Beacon Academy of Nevada, Coral Academy of Science, The Honors Academy of Literature, I Can Do Anything (ICDA), Leadership Academy of Nevada, Nevada Connections Academy, Nevada Virtual Academy, Oasis Academy. You can see the full list of schools at http://www.nevadacharters.org/school-directory/northern-schools.

Finally, there are a few parochial schools and non-secular private high schools.  The parochial schools are Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, The Church Academy and Foothills Church Academy. The three private schools are Sage Ridge, Sierra Nevada and Truckee Meadows School. In addition to the high schools above there are also approximately 25 private elementary/middle schools.

Northern Nevada is not only home to a variety of schools and choices in education for your children, but education beyond high school with a major university with the University of Nevada which is part of the Mountain West Division and two community colleges:  Truckee Meadows Community College and Western Nevada College.

If you are needing to relocate and are looking for a good school for your kids whether they are in grade school, heading to college or you are continuing with your own education, northern Nevada has numerous options with quality education from start to finish.
