On Wednesday morning, two people were killed when their vehicle slid into oncoming traffic and collided with a semi-truck. They've since been identified as Michael Harter, a deputy in Eureka County, and nine year old Haley Page, both of Crescent Valley.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command says that it was about 9:15 a.m. when the 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling southbound on SR-318 in Nye County and a 2012 International semi tractor with a silver box trailer was traveling in the northbound lane. The roadway was wet and covered in slush and snow, officials say, when 29 year old Michael Harter lost control of his vehicle.
The Dodge spun, crossing into the northbound travel lane before being struck in the side by the semi-truck.
Harter and the right rear passenger of the Dodge, 9 year old Haley Page, were pronounced dead on the scene. A 32 year old woman, also from Crescent Valley, was airlifted in critical condition. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
NHP says this marks the Southern Command's 55th fatal collision for 2015.
