Bighorns Fall to D-Fenders in Opener
During an exciting and energetic game Friday night at the Reno Events Center, the Bighorns fell to the Los Angles D-Fenders, 123-121.
Ricky Ledo led the Bighorns by notching 33 points along with eight rebounds and three assists. Sundiata Gaines followed Ledo closely, scoring 27 points, five rebounds and five assists. Vince Hunter grabbed 17 rebounds in the night’s contest and scored 21 points. Marshall Henderson went 5-9 from behind the arc and finished the night with 15 points.
Ledo let the Bighorns in the first quarter notching eight points and tallying five rebounds. Gaines added four points while Hunter grabbed four rebounds. Hunter, Chad Toppert and Reggie Hearn scored three points each.
The teams kept the score tight during the second quarter, with the D-Fenders outscoring the Bighorns, 34-33. Henderson lit it up in the quarter, totaling 12 points and going 4-6 from behind the arc. Ledo and Hunter scored five points each while Hunter snagged four rebounds. Hammonds totaled three rebounds and three assists in the second quarter.
The Bighorns went into the locker room at the half, trailing the D-Fenders by one (57-56).
Henderson ended the first half with a total of 15 points, going 5-8 from the three point line. Ledo totaled 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half.
Gaines led the team in the third quarter with 11 points and two rebounds. Ledo notched eight points going 4-5 from the field while Dukan totaled six in the quarter.
The Bighorns caught fire in the final quarter, outscoring the D-Fenders 33-29. Ledo led the team in the final quarter by notching 12 points and adding two assists. Gaines added nine points and three assists in the quarter while Hunter totaled nine points and six assists. The Bighorns shot 50 percent from the field in the quarter compared to the D-Fenders 37 percent.
The Bighorns will hit the road this weekend, taking on the Bakersfield Jam at 5 p.m. The Bighorns return home Sunday, Nov. 22 to face the Santa Cruz Warriors at 6 p.m. at the Reno Events Center.
