The Twisted Fork Restaurant to Stay Voluntarily Closed During E. Coli Investigation

The Twisted Fork Restaurant in South Reno says it will remain voluntarily closed as the Washoe County Health District investigates the source of several E. coli cases. 

Health District Spokesman Phil Ulibarri says the health district was notified of eight total cases on Wednesday, November 4th with six of those cases affiliated with The Twisted Fork restaurant.

There's no immediate information on the remaining two reported cases. 

Health officials say the eight cases are not related to the current cases being investigated in El Dorado County at High Hill Ranch, or Chipotle restaurants.

On Friday morning, Twisted Fork Restaurant General Manager Joe Clements released this statement:

“The Twisted Fork remains voluntarily closed as the Washoe County Health District continues its investigation into the cause of recent E. coli illnesses. As of this morning, the health district has indicated that it is investigating multiple cases – including cases that did not eat at The Twisted Fork. 

“We take great pride in our food preparation and service and our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our customers. In the three years since opening in January 2013, we have consistently received top scores from the Washoe County Health District in the areas of cleanliness, food preparation/handling, and refrigeration. 

“We have chosen to remain closed until we are absolutely certain that every precaution has been taken to protect our customers and our employees going forward. 

“In the meantime, we are fully cooperating with health district representatives and have provided them with a complete list of all ingredients used in our restaurant dating back to early October. It is our understanding that the health district is still working to identify what may have caused the illnesses. While the investigation continues, we have already deep-cleaned the entire restaurant and are working toward safeguarding our future customers by implementing additional food preparation/handling training for staff along with enhanced sanitation procedures. 

“As a family-owned local business, we offer our sympathies to those affected by this situation and we remain deeply committed to protecting our community, our valuable customers, and our employees from this happening again. We have also made the decision to compensate our employees during the time in which we are temporarily closed.” 

“As more information becomes available, we will make every effort to share what we learn with the community at large.”
