Despite the fourth-straight 20+ kill performance from reigning Mountain West Player of the Week Madison Morell and six blocks from junior Kathryn Groenweghe, the Nevada volleyball team fell to Utah State, 3-1, on Thursday evening.

Senior Sam Willoughby finished with a .333 hitting percentage, two service aces and three blocks for the Wolf Pack (11-16, 6-9 MW). The Pack out-served the Aggies, 5-2, and four players racked up double-digit figs for Nevada.

After dropping the first set, a kill from freshman Peighton De Von and an error gave the Pack an early 5-2 advantage. Utah State would take its first lead at 7-6 and led by as much as three, 19-16 before a kill from Morell and an error tied the score again at 20-20. There were three different lead changes down the stretch but the Aggies took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match after taking the second, 25-23.

Trailing 4-1 in the third, the Pack used an 8-1 run that featured an ace from sophomore Madison Foley and two aces from Willoughby to jump on top, 9-5. A kill from Morell extended the Pack advantage to 17-12 and helped lead Nevada to a 25-20 third set win after posting a team-high eight kills in the third frame.

Morell and the Pack looked to carry momentum into the fourth set but Utah State proved to be too much as the Aggies hit .406 in the fourth to clinch the match, 3-1.

Nevada next travels to Boise State for a match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
