After collecting 52 kills and a .356 hitting percentage in two wins for the Nevada volleyball team last week, junior right side hitter Madison Morell has been named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The conference honor is the first for the Plano, Texas native. Her back-to-back 20+ kill performances helped lead the Pack to wins over Fresno State and UNLV, the program’s first win over its intrastate rival in 10 years. Morell also registered double-doubles in the two victories.
She owned the match-highs with 25 kills, 14 digs and a .367 hitting percentage in the win over the Rebels while also leading the team with 27 kills against Fresno State.
Down a set against UNLV, Morell’s seven kills and two digs in the second frame helped the Wolf Pack tie the match score at 1-1. Her fifth kill of the fourth set gave Nevada set point in the match-clinching frame. Morell carried the Pack to its second-consecutive victory after racking up a team-high eight kills in the match-clinching fourth set against Fresno State. The MW’s leader in service aces also collected two aces over eight sets.
Nevada is on the road this week but will return home for Senior Night on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Street Gym.
