Nevada Grabs Exhibition Win to Open Eric Musselman Era

The University of Nevada men’s basketball team dominated Dominican University in a 30-point exhibition victory over the Penguins 82-52 at Lawlor Events Center on Friday night.  First-year head coach Eric Musselman showed off his face paced offense as the Pack scored 82 points and four player scored in double figures.

With the game tied at 19-19 Nevada closed the first half with an 18-8 run to take a 37-27 lead into the locker room.  The Penguins got within five points with 17:15 to play in the second but the Pack quickly pushed it back to double figures 48-38.  Midway through the second half Nevada led by 13 and pushed it to 21 with just under six minutes to play.

A D.J. Fenner dunk with 32 seconds to remaining made the final margin 30-points as the Musselman era got off to a good start. 

Nevada put four players in double figures with senior guard Tyron Criswell netting a game-high 18 in 22 minutes off the bench.  Freshman guard Lindsey Drew made his first collegiate start and totaled 13 points in 30 minutes of action.

Fenner and freshman forward Cameron Oliver scored 11 points each.  Fenner got the start while Oliver played 17 minutes off the bench.  Oliver grabbed six board and blocked three shots in his collegiate debut.

Senior AJ West finished with a game-high 12 rebounds and scored eight points all at the free throw line.  Sophomore Elijah Foster was impressive with his nine rebounds and six points in just 15 minutes of time off the bench.

Josh Ramirez led the Penguins with 13 points and Josh Armstrong added 10. 

Nevada made 41-of-50 free throws and won the rebounding battle 53-24.

The Pack hosts Alaska-Fairbanks on Friday in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m.
