Sophomore Madison Foley and junior Madison each tallied 15 kills but it wasn’t enough as the Nevada volleyball team were topped by New Mexico, 3-1, at the Virginia Street Gym on Thursday evening.
Senior Taylar Rothfuss tallied 41 assists to go along with seven digs and two kills for the Pack (8-13, 3-6 MW).
A couple of kills and an ace from Foley gave Nevada an early 7-4 but that advantage was lost as the Lobos countered with a big run. Trailing 20-16, the Pack went on a 4-1 ...run that included two kills from Willoughby that made it 21-20. It wasn’t enough though as the Lobos went up 1-0 in the match with the win.
After dropping the second frame, two Lobo errors and a kill from Foley created separation and gave Nevada an 8-5 lead. The Pack was in front most of the set but New Mexico came all the way back to tie the score, 23-23. Thanks to a kill from Morell and an error, Nevada claimed the set, 25-23. Foley posted five kills and two aces in the frame.
Morell would heat up in the fourth set where she racked up five kills and two aces but New Mexico proved to be too much as they clinched the match, 3-1.
Nevada will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. when the Wolf Pack takes on Air Force. As part of homecoming, the match is free for all fans.
