Nevada junior goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos has been tabbed this week’s Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The Fresno, Calif. native was the final anchor in helping the Wolf Pack earn back-to-back shutout victories after defeating Colorado State, 2-0, and Wyoming, 1-0, over the weekend. Quintos stopped a total of six shots during the two matches, including four in the second half against CSU.
In the 70th minute on Sunday, Quintos made a diving, fingertip save to preserve the lead, and eventually, the win over the Cowgirls. She aided in the Wolf Pack’s first pair of back-to-back shutout wins since 2012.
Quintos, who returned full time after being sidelined for 18 games last year, is the first conference weekly award winner since Dana Moreno also garnered defensive honors during the 2012 season.
Nevada hits the road for its final three regular season matches of the year, beginning first with a contest at Fresno State Friday night. The Wolf Pack will be trying to solidify its first postseason berth since 2013.
