Nevada Release

Senior Sam Willoughby continued her strong recent play with a .316 hitting percentage, 10 kills and three blocks but it was not enough as the Nevada volleyball team fell to Boise State, 3-1, in front of 495 at the Virginia Street Gym on Thursday.

Nevada (7-12, 2-5 MW) out-served the Broncos 3-1 and saw standout performances from sophomore Madison Foley, who had 12 kills, and junior Madison Morell, who tallied a team-high 18 kills on a .279 clip.

A service ace from sophomore Mo Maluotoga gave Nevada its largest lead of the of the first set, 13-10, but Boise State tallied two quick points to make it 13-12. Willoughby then posted a kill that made it 14-12 and a kill from Foley later extended the Nevada lead before a Boise State error made it 18-14. The Pack would not look back in the set as it finished the frame on a 4-1 run and was wrapped up on a kill from Foley to give Nevada a 1-0 lead in the set.

After the Broncos won the second the and third sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match, the Wolf Pack looked to send the match to the fifth set, where Nevada is 4-0 this season. It was back-and-forth for  most of the frame and a kill from Morell made it 20-20 but the Pack was not able to hold on as Boise State claimed the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.

Nevada returns on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when the Wolf Pack takes on Utah State in its annual Pink Game. All fans wearing pink will get into the match for free.
