IRONMAN Lake Tahoe has decided not to return next year.

On its website, the IRONMAN organization says:
“After careful consideration, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe will not be extended. We appreciate the efforts and support of the city, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone else involved in putting on this triathlon. We would also like to thank all of the athletes who have raced with us here.
We appreciate your dedication and understand your disappointment with not being able to race. Please consider another IRONMAN event.”

No exact reason was provided.

More than 2,500 people participated in last Sunday’s event. It was canceled in 2014 due to unhealthy weather conditions.

The triathlon consists of 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.
