On Monday, one lucky blood donor won a brand new 2015 Toyota Corolla in United Blood Services' Driving for Donors raffle.
All summer, people received raffle tickets after each donation and today Kristy Hill's lucky number was drawn.
United Blood Services tell us that they've struggled with getting donations over the summer since school is out and high school students make up about 20% of their donations.
But adding a new Toyota Corolla into the mix has certainly helped boost their numbers since they began the promotion in 2007.
“We've always collected enough blood for our community blood program every single summer,” says Steve Thomas, Regional Manager of Donor Recruitment, Reno.
They hope to continue driving for donors next summer - but until then - Reno needs about 125 blood donors each day to meet their need.
If you'd like to schedule an appointment to donate, United Blood Services has offices in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. Call 775-785-6623.
Giving blood takes one hour, and one pint of blood helps three people in need in our community. To expedite the process, donors are encouraged fill out the health history questionnaire online the day of their appointment. Visit https://edhq.unitedbloodservices.org to fill out the questionnaire.
