The Wolf Pack collected its 60th season opening victory with Saturday’s victory, improving to 60-45-3 all-time in season opening contests … Nevada is 54-15-3 all-time in season opening games at Mackay Stadium and 2-1 under head coach Brian Polian.
Nevada scored touchdowns on all three of its opening three drives to open a 21-0 lead at the 6:27 mark in the second quarter … The last time Nevada opened a game with three straight touchdown drives came in the 2010 season opener against Eastern Washington (Sept. 2, 2010) … A pair of touchdown runs from senior RB Don Jackson and junior TE Jarred Gipson’s TD touchdown reception lead Nevada to an early 21-0 lead … The Wolf Pack didn’t record a punt until 12:34 in the third quarter … Nevada also scored 20 unanswered points to open the game against UC Davis in 2013.
RB Don Jackson kick started his senior campaign with a splendid opener, rushing for a game-high 124 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries … Jackson averaged 9.5 yards per carry … This mark’s Jackson’s fifth career 100-yard rushing effort and his first since going for 121 yards against Air Force on Nov. 15, 2014 … Jackson scored touchdowns from one and seven yards out, tallying his third-career multi-touchdown rushing effort.
STEWART SHINES IN SECOND CAREER START
Junior QB Tyler Stewart improved to 2-0 in a starter, leading Nevada to a 31-17 victory over UC Davis in his first career start since 2013 … Stewart 13-of-20 for 163 yards and one touchdown … He also rushed for a career-high 43 yards on nine carriers with his first career rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter … Stewart recorded a 150.0 QB rating … Stewart completed nine of his first 10 passes for 118 yards.
RUFUS SETS CAREER-HIGH MARK IN FIRST START
In his first career start, redshirt-freshman SS Asauni Rufus tallied a career-high and game-high 12 tackles … The Bakersfield, Calif., native tallied seven unassisted tackles and five split tackles.
Nevada out-gained UC Davis by a 232-89 margin … The Wolf Pack has averaged 200 yards rushing in seven out of the past nine seasons … Jackson led Nevada with 124 yards on 13 carriers … Sophomore RB James Butler added 65 yards on 14 carriers while Stewart finished with a career-high 43 yards on nine carries.
