Aces Blank Bees to begin 4 Game Homestand

Posted: Updated:

Starter Aaron Blair (@A_Blair19) delivered six shutout innings to lead the Reno Aces (@Aces) to a 3-0 win over the Salt Lake Bees Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark.

The 23-year-old right-hander limited the Bees to six hits and did not walk a batter. He set a new Triple-A high with eight strikeouts in Reno’s fourth team shutout of the season.

Shortly after Blair retired the side in the first, the Aces got him a small lead. Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) singled to start the inning and swiped second base to get into scoring position. An error by Salt Lake second baseman Alex Yarbrough put Freeman at third for Danny Dorn who drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

Blair danced around baserunners in the early innings. Salt Lake’s Kyle Kubitza doubled with two outs in the first, but Blair came back to strikeout Efren Navarro to end the inning. Two singles put two runners on in the second, but Blair got Gary Brown to bounce into a 6-4 fielder’s choice to end the threat.

With a 1-0 lead in the fifth, Aces center fielder Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) made a sensational running catch as he crashed into the wall to rob Brown of extra bases.

Blair was lifted for Kaleb Fleck (@k_fleck) who quickly set the Bees down in order in the seventh. He returned in the eighth and struck out Ryan Jackson and Grant Green before departing. Lefty Matt Reynolds was summoned and struck out Kubitza to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Brandon Drury started a rally in the home half of the eighth with a lead-off double off the left-field wall. He moved to third on a fly ball to right, then scored when Dorn belted a double down the right-field line. After Glaesmann was retired, Nick Buss (@chilibuss) delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to give Reno a 3-0 lead.

Enrique Burgos took care of Salt Lake in the ninth and picked up his fourth save of the season. Blair improved to 5-1 and lowered his ERA to 3.38 in eight starts with the Aces.

Game two of the four-game series is scheduled for Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Allen Webster (3-5, 8.95) starts for the Aces against left-hander Tyler DeLoach (1-4, 5.54) for the Bees. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
