Nevada's First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Opens Friday

Posted: Updated:

"Looking back, it was stressful then," said Aron Swan, General Manager of Silver State Relief. "And here we are, the day before we open, and it's completely elevated."

Nevada's first medical marijuana dispensary will open Friday, July 31 at 10:00 AM. The opening has been in the works for quite some time.

"It's been going on for nearly 2 years," said Swan.

Silver State Relief will sell six different types of medical marijuana. The facility on Greg Street is only a dispensary. Their cultivation plant is near the site, at an undisclosed location. But in order to bring the marijuana here, they have to share travel plans with the Sparks Police Department.

"If there's an accident, or the car get's pulled over, or some sort of car jacking, they know the location and what to expect."

That is not the only security feature the company takes. From the outside, the windows are covered with bars,  there are more than 30 security cameras in and outside the site, and the lobby is equipped with bulletproof glass.

"It's very secure," said Swan. "We want our patients to feel secure."

As far as how many people they expect on opening day:

"I wish I knew," said Swan. "I wish I had a crystal ball. We're hoping to have a fairly decent line."
