Flooding Affects Washoe Valley Residents

Posted: Updated:

Several families on Tinhorn Rd. in Washoe Valley, are now faced with a ton of flood damage done to their properties after a storm on Tuesday.

One resident, Laurence Kaplan, has been living in Washoe valley since 1997 and he says he's rarely seen flooding near his home as bad as it was today.

“We heard the tidal wave type of sound coming down the hill when all of the sudden, three feet of water was on the road,” says Kaplan.

Kaplan and his neighbors say they've never seen more than a couple inches of water in the dry creek bed that runs near their homes, that was until this afternoon.

Kaplan and other residents said the open drain in the creek filled with rocks and mud, creating a dam. This caused the rapids to run right over their main road.

After seeing the power of today's rapids, Kaplan says he’s reminded that crossing through flash floods is never a safe idea.
