Aces Grab 3rd Straight Win Over Fresno

Posted: Updated:
The Reno Aces (@Aces) continued their recent surge behind a strong outing from Aaron Blair @A_Blair19) in a 5-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.

The broad-shouldered, right-handed-throwing Blair built off of his first Triple-A win last Tuesday at Tacoma by throwing six innings of one-run ball against the Grizzlies.

And Reno (36-41) provided more than enough offensive support for the 23-year-old.

Facing Asher Wojciechowski – who entered a perfect 5-and-0 – the Aces snagged a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Buss (@chilibuss) was beaned and moved to third on a double by Brandon Drury. After a strikeout and walk, Peter O'Brien drove home Buss on a sacrifice fly to center.

Blair cruised from the second through the fourth until Fresno (44-33) knotted the game at one in the fifth. Tyler Heineman singled with one away before advancing to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Blair. With two outs, Grizzlies lead-off hitter Tony Kemp slashed a run-scoring single to left but was out stretching at second.

The Aces' offense broke loose against Wojciechowski (5-1) in the home half, scoring four runs on four hits. Buss dropped down a bunt single to start the inning, and Drury then split the right-center gap for an RBI double, giving the Aces a 2-1 advantage. Jamie Romak added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1, and Garrett Weber (@_weber5) capped the scoring to a two-run shot to left.

Backed with a 5-1 cushion, Blair (2-1) worked around a two-out single in the sixth before giving way to the bullpen. He scattered six hits and allowed one unearned run while walking one and striking out five.

Addison Reed (@Areed43) made his Aces' debut in the seventh and worked a 1-2-3 inning. Dan Runzler delivered a scoreless eighth before Seth Simmons (@SizzleSimmons95) yielded one run on two hits in the ninth.

Drury, Nick Evans and Romak all finished with two hits.

The Aces have won three straight games and nine of their last 11 overall.

The finale of the five-game series is set for Monday night. Right-hander Edgar Garcia (1-1, 5.51) gets the nod for the Aces against left-hander Luis Cruz (4-2, 4.06) for the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
