Deadline Looms for Nevada Lawmakers

Posted: Updated:
It's officially crunch time.

Inside the Nevada Legislative Building, lawmakers and lobbyists alike  are scrambling to make Tuesday's 12:00 A.M. deadline.

"The public expects us to do our business and get out in 120 days,” said Assemblywoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson. “I am resolved to be done within that time frame."

“We plan to conclude on time,” said Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison. “You never know.  In the Assembly and the Senate, things can proceed in a way that is different. But right now, we feel good about concluding on time."

Nevada law requires legislators to do all of their work in 120 days.  And believe me, lawmakers want to be done Monday just as much as we want them to.

“Cutting the lawn,” said Assemblyman Jim Wheeler. “Laundry needs to be done, and I'll probably just be sleeping all day Tuesday."

“I hope not to be in this building on Tuesday,” said Benitez-Thompson. “I hope that we've finished all of the policy conversations."
