Minimum Wage Hike Dead in Nevada Legislature

Posted: Updated:
A measure that would have raised Nevada's minimum wage to $9 has been amended to only change how overtime hours are calculated.

The Assembly Commerce and Labor committee amended and approved Senate Bill 193 on a party-line vote on Friday, with Democrats opposing.

The measure would repeal a law requiring employers to pay overtime after eight hours of work in a 24-hour period. It would only require overtime once an employee works more than 40 hours in a week.

The bill initially would have raised the minimum wage to $9 for employees without employer-sponsored health insurance but that section was amended out.

It now moves to the full Assembly for a vote. Assembly Majority Leader Paul Anderson said he'd work with Democrats to reach a consensus on the bill. (AP)
