Nevada Release

After impressive seasons at the plate and in the field for the Nevada softball team, the Wolf Pack middle-infield tandem of junior Megan Sweet and senior Karley Hopkins were named to All-Mountain West Conference teams, the league announced on Tuesday.

Sweet was named to the First Team while Hopkins was awarded Second Team accolades in what is the second All-MW honors for each player. The duo are the first players to be named All-MW twice in the history of the program.

In 2015, the record books were re-written by Hopkins who concluded one the greatest careers in the history of Nevada softball. The Sparks native broke all-time records in hits, doubles, runs and at bats and left with a .365 career batting average, the second-best batting average in school history.

Hopkins' five RBI in a win over UNLV on April 18 set a new career-high and twice matched her career-best of four hits against Seattle on Feb. 13 and Southern Illinois on Feb. 28. She also made a number of spectacular plays at second base throughout the season including two game saving plays in a 3-2 victory over Utah State on March 29.

The 2015 campaign for Sweet was one of the best individual seasons in the history of the program. Sweet's .405 batting average set a school record and was the first Wolf Pack softball player to hit over .400. The Bakersfield, Calif. native registered career-highs with 48 RBI, four short of the program's single-season record, 10 home runs, 68 hits, a .667 slugging percentage and a .469 on-base percentage.

Sweet took off in conference play and where she posted 10-straight games with two hits or more and finished the season ranked third with a .462 batting average, 36 hits and six home runs in MW contests. Overall, Sweet ranked 10th in hitting in the Mountain West where she ranked in the top-10 in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, home runs and RBI.
