'Revenge Porn' Ban Vetted by Nevada Lawmakers

Posted: Updated:
Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a broad-ranging sex crime bill that would criminalize so-called "revenge porn."

Senators reviewed AB49 on Friday in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The bill would make it a felony to post explicit photos on a website with the intent to harass or terrorize someone. Supporters say 17 other states prohibit jilted lovers and hackers from posting explicit photos online without permission.

The measure also toughens penalties on sexual crimes against children, including sexual acts with a child committed by a teacher.

It also creates additional penalties for child abuse and changes certain court proceedings in child sexual abuse cases.

Opponents said the measure would create problems for defending sensitive cases in court and that it proposed overly harsh punishments.

The committee took no action on the bill.
