Governor Sandoval Commends Leadership on Legislative Progress

Posted: Updated:
From the Office of Governor Brian Sandoval:

Governor Brian Sandoval issued the following statement today after signing multiple pieces of legislation into law.

“I am pleased with the progress that has been made up to this point in the Legislative Session, and I commend the legislative leadership in both parties for working diligently to address important issues in Nevada. The bills I signed today include much needed reforms that will benefit Nevada's elderly and vulnerable citizens, expand access to resources for victims of domestic violence, increase government transparency, and promote fire safety and preparedness in rural communities.”

Governor Sandoval today approved AB 333, SB 177, and SB 83, among other bills forwarded by the Legislature for the Governor's signature.

AB 333 permits rural counties to consolidate fire protection districts upon the request of property owners living in the county, subject to the approval of the county's Board of Commissioners. Allowing these jurisdictions to consolidate fire protection districts will assist in facilitating collaborative efforts among fire departments serving rural communities, while helping to reduce costs and enhance services.

SB 177, otherwise known as the “CARE Act”, provides support for those who care for a loved one at home. Family caregivers who provide assistance to an elderly parent or relative living at home can face a host of challenges associated with caring for their loved one. The CARE Act supports greater communication between caregivers and medical facilities, strengthens notification requirements for caregivers, and requires medical facilities to provide critical information and explanations to caregivers regarding medical tasks they will be performing in a home setting.

SB 83 ensures that state employees who report waste, fraud, or abuse in state government through the state's fraud hotline are able to do so confidentially. This protection will encourage employees to report instances of inappropriate uses of public dollars and other state resources, and increase transparency and accountability in state government.
