Las Vegas 51s' left-hander Steven Matz has faced the Reno Aces twice this year and has two dominant outings to show for it. The southpaw struck out 12 batters in seven innings to lead the 51s to a 7-2 win over the Aces Thursday night at Cashman Field.
The number two prospect in the New York Mets' organization (Baseball America), Matz allowed one run on five hits in his seven frames. The lone run he allowed was in the first inning when Jamie Romak singled to left-field to drive in Garrett Weber
The four-game series continues Friday night in Las Vegas. Left-hander Vidal Nuño (2-1, 3.60) starts for the Aces against right-hander Matthew Bowman (1-3, 8.69) for the 51s. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
