Money Watch Q&A: Rural Housing Deals

If you are considering buying a home, do not miss a free home buyer's expo happening this weekend at the Nugget in Sparks. It is designed to educate potential homeowners about what goes into buying a house. The Nevada Rural Housing Authority is hosting the event Saturday, April 18th from 1 to 4 p.m. Lenders, builders, inspection companies and non-profit partners will be available to answer questions.

Other topics will include:
*Down Payment Assistance
    -Home at Last program provides four points of down payment assistance in the form of grants.
    -The Mortgage Tax Certificate (MTC) program provides a federal income tax savings of up to $2,000 on one's mortgage interest annually in Nevada.
*Inspector & Appraiser Information
    -How to choose one.
    -What they do and for what they are inspecting.
*Renting vs. Buying
*Title and Escrow
*Insurance
*How to become a Homeowner
    -Get pre-qualified and find out for what down payment assistance you qualify.
    -How to choose a realtor.

    -USDA Rural Development providing home loans with zero money down.
    -Conventional loan benefits vs FHA loans.

    -Housing inventory
    -Interest rates
    -Free Credit Reports
    -Credit Repair Information

Snell became an advocate shortly after he met his wife Shannon and her daughter Joy, who is autistic.
