Safety Watch Q & A: University of Nevada Campus Safety

Posted: Updated:
Between sports, special events and the University of Nevada's more than 18,000 students -- tonight's Safety Watch Q & A guest has his hands full.

Commander Eric James with the University of Nevada, Reno Police Services is here to talk about safety on campus. If you have a question for him, call 858-2222 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

1) Before we get to a couple viewer questions... Let's talk about a bill in the legislature that would allow concealed weapons permit holders to carry their guns on college campuses. Not from a political perspective, but rather a law enforcement perspective - is this a good idea?

2) From on our KTVN Channel 2 News Facebook page - viewer Lynn Dodge would like more "public reporting of crime on campus. As students, we should know what is happening." How can students have better access to that kind of information?

3) Another Facebook viewer, George Castro thinks a big concern on campus is - "bikes being stolen. Serious problem" he says. "Wish there were more cameras on campus."

On a side note, the university has added a hotline where people can anonymously contact to report sexual assault or sexual misconduct on or off campus. The 24-hour hotline number is 784-1030.
