Palmer Advances to NCAA Championships

Posted: Updated:
In the opening day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional, junior Krysta Palmer placed fourth in the three-meter springboard to punch her NCAA Championship ticket. Palmer scored a 636.7 in the three-meter competition Monday at the Cadet Natatorium.

The Mountain West Diver of the Year led the field of 49 with 338.15 points after the preliminary round. The Carson City native accumulated 636.7 points following the finals round to place fourth out of 18 finalists.

“It's a great accomplishment for Krysta to qualify for NCAAs and she displayed a lot of grace today,” said MW Diving Coach of the Year Jian Li You. “She did very well in the first round before losing a little bit of energy going into the finals, placing only 10 points behind third place.”

Palmer will join teammates Yawen Li and Teresa Baerens at the 2015 NCAA Championships on March 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C. The Wolf Pack will send three student-athletes to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2008.

Arizona State's Hailey Casper won the three-meter springboard with a total of 672.30 points. Arizona's Samantha Pickens, UCLA's Maria Polyakova and Palmer rounded out the top four.

Palmer will continue competition at zones tomorrow, competing in the 1-meter springboard. Preliminary competition will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 1:05 p.m. The meet will conclude on Wednesday with the platform dive.
