Senate Bill Would Make P.E. Mandatory, Set Standards for Classes

Posted: Updated:
Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would make physical education mandatory for students in kindergarten through 11th grade.

Members of the Senate Education Committee are scheduled to review SB178 at a meeting Tuesday.

The bill would close some loopholes that allow P.E. requirements to be waived or excluded from a personalized education plan.

It would also require a council to set standards for P.E. content and performance.

The bill is sponsored by Republican Sen. Joe Hardy, who's a doctor from Boulder City.

It could face opposition for requiring more of schools without providing funding to carry out the proposed programs.  (AP)
