Summer Job & Internship Expo at University of Nevada

Posted: Updated:
Hundreds of University of Nevada students on the road to graduation met with dozens of recruiters at the annual Summer Job and Internship Expo Wednesday.

We are seeing a bit of a turn in people who are being hired for these positions. Organizers say when the recession hit, we saw a lot of the older workers taking these jobs and internships, but as the economy recovers, it appears more new-graduates are being hired.

"Employers are reporting that they expect to hire about 12 percent more entry-level graduates than they have the previous year," said Mary T. Calhoon, Assistant Director of the Nevada Career Studio (The group that put on the expo). "So, that's really good news for our students."

Nevada Career Studio actually helps students become ready for the job force. Calhoon says with different companies coming to northern Nevada, it is becoming more appealing for our students to stay and work here. Also, with properly-educated students, she says it is also good for the recruiting-businesses.

"We have a ready-talented workforce ready for jobs, ready for internships, and I think that that's a real draw for the companies that are moving into the area."

More than 50 companies were represented at Wednesday's expo, including Tesla Motors in its first recruiting visit at the University of Nevada.
