Finally....a Final Resting Spot in Sparks

Posted: Updated:

The Sparks City Council has taken its first official steps toward creating something the city has never had before - a cemetery.

"Sparks has been here for more than 100 years and we've had a lot of old timers come and say to us and to the city council members that they'd actually like to be laid to rest in their hometown. That's what started the conversation a few years ago and now we're moving forward with the plan."

Adam Mayberry is the City Manager in Sparks and he's quick to point out that that process could take anywhere from two years to 10 to complete. But Monday's unanimous city council vote gets the ball rolling.

The 80 acres of land is north and east of the Wild Creek Golf Course. It's owned by the BLM.

Mayberry says the process now moves to Washington where our congressional delegation will take up the cause.
