Midtown Continues to Grow in 2015

Posted: Updated:
Midtown is more than just a strip of stores behind the downtown hotels. The Midtown District is a locally grown establishment that includes, art, retail, food and much more. With the start of the new year comes the talk of adding more businesses to the area.

Jessica Schnieder, the owner of the popular Junkee clothing exchange, says she is looking forward to new businesses.

“Midtown right now is so exciting. We really band together and bring all the locals all different diverse independent, organically grown and I think that's why the locals like it so much,” says Schneider.

Schneider also says new stores such as Happy Happy Joy Joy, Two Chicks and her store Sippies, add to the variety and vision of midtown.

Owners in the area expect an additional 3 to 4 new businesses will be opening in Midtown in 2015, with the lease already being signed for an ice cream shop to open this February.

Other events in Midtown include an art walk that will be taking place in May as well a partnership with Artown this July.

Sam Sprague, owner of Micano, says the district itself has grown 60% since it started back in the early 2000's.

“It was affordable, you know it was a great for the university as well as the downtown corridor and it was probably the only spot where you could do something like this in Reno where you could get a bunch of stores together,” says Sprague.
