Former Wolf Pack Player Discusses Life in the NBA

Posted: Updated:
The Wolf Pack will be playing in the first bowl game of the season, Saturday, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. But right across the street, at the Smoothie King Center, Luke Babbitt and the New Orleans Pelicans will be playing basketball.

Luke Babbitt in his fifth season playing forward in the NBA. The Pelican squad is one game above 500. "It's been a good experience for me, here in New Orleans. Just grinding away, trying to get some wins."

Babbitt says life in the NBA has its challenges especially the wear-and-tear of an 82-game season.

While the Big Easy is where he lives for basketball, he says Reno is still home. And still keeps in touch with friends from his days with the Galena Grizzlies and the Nevada Wolf Pack. "15 or 16 years, I was in Reno. So, there's ties there. I miss it and get back there in the summers as much as possible."

He also keeps up with his college team. While the Wolf Pack basketball team is on an 8-game skid, he says their growing pains are part of the process. "They're just rebuilding but they've got great people there. Coach Carter is a great coach and a great person, most importantly. So, I think they'll get it together."

He is also looking forward to the Wolf Pack's bowl game against the Rajin' Cajuns. And has high hopes for the silver and blue. "They're gonna win. Of course, I would say that. It will be fun, I think, playing in the Superdome. I've been to a few Saints games and it's just a cool place."

Babbitt says he would like go and cheer on the pack but says he'll have to watch it on TV because it's also game day for him. The Pelicans host the Trail Blazers, tomorrow.

You can watch the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Saturday at 8 a.m. on ESPN. For additional coverage, fans can listen to Ryan Radtke and Chris Vargas' call of the game on the Wolf Pack Radio Network (94.5 FM/930 AM).
