TMCC Gives The Gift of Education

Posted: Updated:
Truckee Meadows Community College is trying to brighten the holiday season for one person with free tuition. It is called the, ‘TMCC Gift of Education' contest. Officials at the school say it gives non-traditional students a chance to change their life by starting or returning to school.

This time of year is the time of year when people are thinking about starting over fresh,” said Kate Kirkpatrick. “They are making New Year's Resolutions. They're talking about exercising more, and doing things to better their lives. What better way to change your life than to have the gift of education and come back and get started on some classes?”

This is the first time TMCC has held this contest. In order to be eligible, the student needs to be 25-years-old or older, and not be currently enrolled in a higher education institution.

The winning person will get three, three-credit classes, a $500 book stipend, and an IPad Air 2. Kirkpatrick says education is a gift that keeps on giving.

“We are hoping they will come back to TMCC and use the resources we have here to better their lives, and their family lives' and make a real difference,” she said.

To enter, a person must write a short essay, between 150-200 words on their back story, what education means to them, how it could change their lives. Entrants must post it to the TMCC Facebook page.

The deadline to enter is December 31st
