Thousands of Northern Nevadans Seek Out Deals on Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:
Not even Thanksgiving could keep customers away from shopping for the best deals.

Early Black Friday shopping at the Outlets at Sparks is giving people a chance to work-off those Thanksgiving meals. Some people say it takes some early planning. For people who've done Black Friday before, they say you must come prepared. “You gotta be quick, you gotta be sure you know where you're going, so you can get the things that you want to get,” says Jovie Martinez.

For customers waiting in front of the Best Buy at Legends, they know they have to be in and out as quick as possible, some say so they can get back home to their families for Thanksgiving. For others, it's so they don't miss out on deals at other stores.

The first 220 customers will receive scratch and win cards for a chance to win gift cards to some of the stores.

Many people waiting in line have done Black Friday shopping before. They say since people are still with their families for Thanksgiving, it's not too late to join the wait. “I've done it once before and it was pretty hectic at the time, but this doesn't seem too bad right now,” says Christal Gayle.

Over at Best Buy in south Reno, dozens slept in their tents to make sure they could be the first to grab the best deals on this year's items for sale. Discounted electronics such as TV's is what is drawing in these early shoppers this year.

Charles Peterson is at the front of the pack, and is waiting to buy a TV at half the price of what it normally costs. For him, the prices are well worth the 12 hour wait. "For the amount of savings, nobody's going to pay me that for sleeping and standing in line, you know?"

Some customers say everyone should experience Black Friday shopping at least once in their lives. "We thought we should get here early so my son and his friend camped out last night, they let me stay home so now I'm here to relieve them, so I get to do the last shift,” says Dee Malone.

Best Buy in south Reno opens at 5pm, while the Outlets at Sparks open at 6pm until 2am and then reopen Friday at 8am.
