WCSD Whittles List of Trustee Candidates to 5

Posted: Updated:
The Washoe County School Board has cut its list of applicants to fill Dave Aiazzi's seat to five. The board met Thursday to discuss its list of 17 applicants. They are all interested in representing District E in the Washoe County School District. And their backgrounds ranged from military experience to parenting, and from small business owners to grandparents.

After voting on their top candidates, the list was narrowed down to five.

Carlos Ledon, Diane Nicolet, Darcie Smith, Jean Stoess and Angie Taylor. They all have clear ideas on how to help move education forward in Washoe County and they will get their chance to explain their ideas next week. Those five will go through personal interviews with the Board of Trustees at next Tuesday's meeting.

The winning candidate will be sworn in in December. And two newly elected trustees will be sworn in in January.

It was suggested today that the appointment should be delayed until all new members were onboard to take part in the decision. While that didn't happen, newly elected trustee Veronica Frenkel said she had read through all of the applications and felt it was time to move forward.

"Sure I'd like to be a part of decision but it is time to move ahead. I feel this board has the best interest of the community at heart. And I am happy with the diversity of the finalists they have chosen."

Aiazzi resigned due to a health issue.
