University of Nevada junior guard Marqueze Coleman scored 25 of his 28 points in the second half as the Wolf Pack rallied to defeat Cal State University San Marcos 72-62 in an exhibition game on Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center. The Pack opens the regular season next Saturday when Cal Poly comes to town for a 3 p.m. game.
Trailing 54-51 with 6:55 on the clock Coleman scored 17 consecutive points for the Pack as they moved in front 67-62. The Los Angeles native scored 20 of the final 24 points as Nevada won 72-62.
Coleman connected on six-of-eight field goals that included three-of-four from behind the arc. At the free throw line he was good on 10-of-11 attempts.
The Cougars shot 45.2 percent from the field in the first half but the Pack defense turned it around in the second half as CSUSM shot just 24.1 percent. Nevada was good on 45.2 percent of its shots in the second period and won the rebounding battled 49-32.
Junior forward AJ West posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard D.J. Fenner scored 13 points on the night.
CSUSM had three players score in double figures led by Dayton Boddie's 18. Akachi Okugo finished with 14 off the bench and Blake Nash added 13.
