AP: Republicans Gain Power in Nevada Legislature

Posted: Updated:
Early returns suggest Republicans will seize control of the Nevada Senate and close the gap in an Assembly that had previously been considered safely Democratic.

Low Democratic turnout helped Republicans win two of three hotly contested Las Vegas-area Senate seats. The third race, involving Democratic Sen. Justin Jones, was too close to call late Tuesday but favored Republican Becky Harris.

All 42 seats are up for grabs in the Assembly, where Democrats held a comfortable 27-15 lead.

A handful of the races were too close to call Tuesday night, but it looked likely that Republicans would win half of the Assembly.   (AP)
