Reno Rodeo Seeks Denim Drive Sites

Posted: Updated:
The Reno Rodeo Foundation is looking for businesses to be collection sites for their upcoming Denim Drive.

“When you think about the Reno Rodeo, 150,000 people having a 10 day celebration is a big deal,” said Steve Schroeder, Director of Communications for the Reno Rodeo. “But the purpose of the rodeo when it began in 1919 was to give back to the community. We have honored that tradition for almost 96 years."

About 100 businesses have signed up to be collection sites, and the foundation is always looking for more. Each site collects new socks, underwear, and jeans for about 1,500 abused and neglected children in Northern Nevada.

100% of the donations stay in each of the 13 counties participating.

Schroeder says the difference the Denim Drive makes is substantial because most of the children come into the system with nothing but the clothes on their back.

“We are helping 1,800 children receive clothing three to four times a year,” he said. “It is the single source of clothing for them.”

To sign up to be a collection site or a sponsor, visit the Reno Rodeo Foundation's website. You can also call 775-322-9875. That deadline is Tuesday night.

The Denim Drive starts November 10th and runs through December 17th
