Group Asks Full Appeals Court to Hear Same-Sex Marriage

Posted: Updated:
A group that couldn't convince three federal appeals judges that Nevada's state law banning same-sex marriage was constitutional is asking the entire 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to hear its case.
The Coalition for the Protection of Marriage filed documents Monday claiming bias by the three-judge 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that last week invalidated a 2002 Nevada state constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage.
A Lambda Legal lawyer who won the appeal called claims of improper judicial selection "unfounded, desperate and sad."
County clerks in Nevada began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples Friday.
By Monday afternoon, more than 140 same-sex couples had obtained marriage licenses at the busy county clerk bureau in Las Vegas -- a city billing itself as the wedding capital of the world.  (AP)
