More than 4,000 participants and 300 breast cancer survivors, gathered Sunday, for the 16
annual Susan G. Komen of Northern Nevada Race for the Cure.

Families, teams and organizations walked, ran and wore pink to show awareness for the disease. A large portion of today's funds help with breast cancer education, screening and treatment.

Executive Director of the event, Niki Patin, says searching for a cure is personal in her own life.

“It's great to see survivors who are newly diagnosed, receiving the kind of help and support and encouragement from those who were diagnosed, and have been survivors for maybe twenty or thirty years, and just to see there is hope, inspiration and there's a future for them,” says Patin.

This year's
participants have assisted in fundraising more than 200 thousand dollars, and donations will continue to be collected during breast cancer awareness month.
