Reality Check: Attorney General's Race - Ross Miller

Posted: Updated:
Ross Miller has served as both a Deputy District Attorney in Clark County and as Secretary of State. He is now running for Attorney General of Nevada. His campaign ad includes the following:

"As Attorney General Miller put away hundreds of criminals."

That's true. He was a Deputy District Attorney in Clark County from 2001 to 2006 and prosecuted hundreds of cases and had significant prosecutions. Those included murderers now spending life sentences in prison.

"Miller cracked down on politicians in both parties to stop campaign fraud."

That's true. He fined Rory Reid the highest fine leveled at the time for campaign finance law violations. And he also lead the investigation into ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) that resulted in 39 felony counts.

"And he even cut his own salary"

That's true too. Miller was one of many constitutional officers who followed Governor Sandoval's lead in refusing to take the 6% pay increase he was owed in 2011. They gave their 6% back to the government for state workers furloughed at the time. And Miller went beyond that and gave back an additional 2.5% to the cause.
