WCSD Board to Discuss Pedro Martinez's Contract

Posted: Updated:
The Washoe County School Board is meeting right now to discuss Pedro Martinez's employment after a judge recommended Monday that the board buy out the remainder of his contract.

Trustees are scheduled to review a plan to pay Martinez 15 months of salary and benefits that he would have earned if he carried out his full contract. The board can determine his last work day, which could be as late as December 22nd.

Martinez would have to agree to dismiss a lawsuit against the board if they pay his $80,000 in attorneys' fees.

In July, school board members relieved him of his superintendent duties after a closed-door meeting, then reinstating his pay the next day. In response he filed two lawsuits against the board.
