Reno Police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted and stabbed a woman inside a motel room.

Police say they were called to an East 4th Street Reno motel Wednesday afternoon on the report of a disturbance.

When they got there, police say they found a man and woman with stab wounds. They were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

As the investigation continued, officers say they discovered the suspect had sexually assaulted the victim at knifepoint and prevented her from leaving the motel room. A struggled ensued and both people were injured by the knife and the police were called by neighbors.

The suspect, 41-year-old Donald Schmitz, was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail for false imprisonment, and battery with a deadly weapon and sexual assault.
